MEET THE BRIDESMAIDS
Natalie (Maid of Honor)
Hometown: San Jose, CA.
How we met: At Good Samaritan Hospital on May 1st, 1992 the day she was born! My parents said Nat was beautiful -- I thought she was a bit wrinkly and red, but I was super excited to meet “my baby” and all I wanted to do was hold her.
Favorite memories together:
-
Nat and I used to pack up our little suitcases and sit in the family car pretending to go on a family road trip to Disneyland (which we did for many years at the end of my dad’s Tax Season.)
-
Dressing up for and going out trick-or-treating.
-
Fun times at Vette and Pappy's spending hours in the pool and stuffing our faces with tartines.
-
Going downstairs together on Christmas morning to see what Santa brought.
-
Baking cookies and watching home movies during family weekends at Pajaro Dunes.
-
All of those years of Tae Kwon Do! Nat is the one that got me through the physically and mentally daunting 4-hour Black Belt Test. I was struggling at one point during the test, and Nat’s encouraging and strong words helped me push through.
-
Trips to Europe, Jamaica and camping at Pinecrest Lake.
-
Our secret clubhouse in the closet :)
Divya
Hometown: San Jose, CA
How we met: 7th grade at Bret Harte Middle School!
Favorite memories together:
-
Pajama Day in middle school.
-
Speech and Debate tournaments in high school.
-
Divs and I had many memorable moments as “1st Year Roomies” at UC Berkeley: daily stretching, chocolate moments, Grey’s Anatomy obsession, dancing to Justin Timberlake on repeat, and Divs recapping my sleep talking from the night before.
-
Spending Valentine’s Day together in Paris when she visited me during my year abroad.
Deborah
Hometown: Covina, CA
How we met: UC Berkeley, Res. Life! Debs was actually my supervisor when I was an RA. Once she graduated from Cal, I took over her position.
Favorite memories together:
-
Watching the OC, eating amazing salads and drinking tea in the dorms together.
-
Boat Dance.
-
Visiting Debs in Australia where she was going to grad school and holding a Koala Bear! Debs showed me such an incredible time in the land down under!
-
Our many talks :)
Tilly
Hometown: London, England
How we met: We were both English teachers in Paris for a year and met at a training session.
Favorite memories together:
-
Going out to breakfast on Wednesday mornings and ordering a “formule.” (No school on Wednesdays throughout most of France! So awesome!)
-
Renting bikes in Paris and thoroughly exploring this incredible city.
-
Sitting outside of Café Carrette at Place Trocadero and doing some major people watching.
-
When Tilly visited me in California we went to Yosemite as part of our trip. Tilly did not bring any shorts to hike in and I insisted that she should not hike in a skirt. When I lent her a pair of my shorts, she asked “do I look like a tit in these?” Now there are a lot of British sayings that Tilly has taught me, but this was by far the best :)
LINA
Hometown: Knoxville, Tennessee
How we met: Lina was originally Mike’s friend, but I “stole” her. We met at UC Davis while I was at law school and Lina was getting her Ph.D in Engineering. Lina and I are now roomies in Sacramento!
Favorite memories together:
-
Watching Downton Abbey and Modern Family.
-
Saturday mornings at Pushkins Bakery! (Gluten Free/Celiac Friendly bakery in Sac. So good!)
-
Watching the Bachelor (guilty pleasure).
-
Zumba class amongst sassy older women!
-
Giggling over cat and dog videos :)
Rebecca
Hometown: Salinas, CA
How we met: UC Davis School of Law
Favorite memories together:
-
Becca and I were co-editors-in-chief of the Environmental Law Journal at UC Davis School of Law. Some of my best memories are from the countless hours we spent together in the journal’s office.
-
In the spring of 2014 Mike surprised me with a trip to Paris where (as you all know) he proposed. Becca was also in Paris that week with her mom. We did not plan it, however somehow we ran into each other in the metro. Absolutely incredible!
-
During my most difficult period after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, Becca showed unconditional friendship by bringing me class notes from when I was sick and recapping missed lectures for me.
